Anderson Pass. Had we continued on the trail, we would have reached it in 4.5 miles. The only problem was that we had no time or energy. Also
the winter snow was still thick at that elevation.
Just the day before the park service found a lost hiker who was last seen heading for Anderson pass.
He planned to approach from the other side, pass over it, and hike out. But he lost the trail in the snow, fell down a steep slope, and
spent several days hoping to be rescued. When no one came, he packed up his gear and headed West hoping for the best. Oddly, we ran in
to him on the trail -- it was like seeing a ghost. Just hours before meeting him park rangers told us to watch out for a lost hiker. They were
clearly concerned that the hiker was lost for good. We gave him some food and told him that help was a few miles away.
