Gitga'at Longhouse

Members of the Gitga'at First Nation completed the construction of this traditional longhouse in 2000. It is located in Cornwall Inlet and surrounded only by endless forest and water. Members of the first nation felled and milled the timbers by hand.

The Gitga'at represent a one of seven communities on the coast that comprise the larger Tsimshian Nation. The other Tsimshian communities are Kitsumkalum, Lax Kw'alaams (Port Simpson), Metlakatla, Kitkatla, Kitselas, and Kitasoo/Xaixais (Klemtoo).
